Kente Duku

Finding more ways to incorporate traditional Akan wear on the blog.

Head wrap (Kente cloth from Ghana) // Oversized Blazer // Belt // Jeans // Flats

I feel my most confident in Kente cloth. Kente is the traditional cloth of the Akans (my tribe) and was usually reserved for important events or for  kinga nd queens. The cloth is now worn much more often, designed into so many beautiful designs. You won’t typically see it worn as a head wrap, or duku as its called in my language. But I’m not your typical ghanaian gyal, am I?

Any time I’ve worn Kente, something good happened:

I graduated.

I won prom queen:

I covered my first fashion show:

…I mean the list goes on. Unfortunately, I don’t have pics of other Kente pieces I’ve worn.

I’ll be wearing my prom queen/pageant kente short dress to a wedding this weekend. Idk, maybe I’ll catch a bouquet or something. LOL.

God Bless You!
