Being imprisoned

Hearing from God during your time of bondage…

Last night I studied Jeremiah 33 and I came to the conclusion that people of God (me, actually) are too damn busy. Imagine us- making appointments with God on Sundays for a few hours in church; maybe for another few hours for Friday night service; then for a couple of minutes when we wake up and go to sleep. And that’s even pretty generous for the average believer.

We find, time and time again, people in the Bible who heard from God during their season of suffering. It makes me wonder why the voice of God is usually most permeating during these times…at least for me. Here we have in Jeremiah 33, the LORD speaks to Jeremiah for the second time while he is in prison. (It is great to note that there is NO confinement and NO chains that can lock us out of the voice and presence of God.)

But immediately upon realizing that Jeremiah is imprisoned, I noticed that God speaks to us ever so clearly during our times of afflictions. When I experience suffering, I lean on God for strength more than ever. And while the afflictions and the anguish abound, consolation from God abounds even more. Hmmm… There’s truly peace in the arms of God.

So its bittersweet, yeah? Being imprisoned…

In one light, well…. you are held captive. But in the other, you’re comforted by God’s word.

Imprisonment doesn’t allow you to be busy. It cuts you off from your schedule and makes you dependent on prayer. And when you’re praying, you’re aligned to hear the secrets of God. Jeremiah 33:3 says  ‘Call to Me and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’ I know yesterday I said God doesn’t promise full disclosure of His plans for your life. But last night I saw that He does, indeed, promise to reveal His secrets to us if we call on Him

God is simply jealous for us. It’s time we start becoming jealous for Him too.

God bless you.
