Here is One Secret to Receiving Everything God Promised You

Stewarding the gift of children well comes with the most amazing results.

Raising children is one of the greatest blessings and gifts one could ever have. To be entrusted with such a responsibility is no small thing- and God requires that we steward that responsibility well and to the glory of God. As children of God and ministers of the Gospel, my husband and I are very intentional about how we raise our children.

From what they wear to what they watch and hear, everything must bring them closer to Jesus, and glorify Him. It should be no strange thing to Christians that we do not celebrate certain holidays such as Halloween; but after uploading on TikTok a video of my daughter’s reaction to a Halloween cartoon, I was grieved by the amount of self- professed Christians who ridiculed me, told me I was doing too much, and even went on to say I was brainwashing my children.

brainwashing- noun – the process of pressuring someone into adopting radically different beliefs by using systematic and often forcible means.

I wouldn’t call what I do with my children brainwashing because pressure and/or force are never involved. But I will agree that I am in fact doing something to their brain: conditioning it to obey and glorify God.

Oftentimes, the narrative around raising children in the fear of the Lord is backed with Proverbs 22: 6 Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it. In doing so, it seems the benefits are only for the children, but not really for parents/ parental figures.

But when you read Genesis 18, you see that raising children God’s way is covenantal. Genesis 18: 19 says For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.

God chose Abraham to raise his children to keep the ways of the Lord and do what is right and just. And as a result of doing so, the Lord would do everything He promised to do in the life of Abraham.

Every time I approach raising/ discipling my children, I have this scripture in mind. Because contrary to popular belief, raising children is not a matter of personal preference. I don’t teach my children to do what I want them to do or even what I think is good for them. I teach my children to do what God commands. To do so does not only benefits them- but it guarantees that God will do well to give me everything He has promised me.

For those of you with children or are believing God for children in 2024, I want you to remember that parenthood isn’t just a gift, it is a trust God gives you. Children aren’t just blessings. The Bible calls them an inheritance and reward (Psalm 127: 3) because when you raise them God’s way- your reward is EVERYTHING GOD HAS PROMISED YOU. In 2024, do well to fulfill your part of your covenant with God by raising your children in the ways and commands of God.
